NOTES FROM BIGBLUFF

Thanks to the Developer and Mrs Developer for putting on a great well catered for BRC Event at the Developer's Palazzo Riverview.

The night started early for Developer, mini Developer, Punter and BB at the nearby Longueville Pub for a nice dinner and drinks. All went back to Developers place where TC Jagger was already waiting. Pregame drinks and nibbles as the Manly vs Bulldogs game started on TV with members coming in.

Game started minus Maverick, The Rok and Dam It!! at around 8.15pm., Developer was first dealer of the night.  It was a good night all-round and as s usual there were highlights as follows:

1. Maverick arrived with the Galaktoboureko!!

2. The suggested "Innovation Games" was not taken on board by the members as a challenge from BB

3. BB won the first hand of the night

4. BB chose to sit back and let the other members lead the betting/raising for a change. This led to  much smaller pots. The members however could not understand the logic of BB's tactic.

5. The Professor raised some eye brows when he dealt everyone and was ready to play an innovative game of "snakes tail" however forgot to deal in himself, necessitating a redeal.

6. BB's "reverse Texas" confused the members as did his next round "Mexican Sweat" in particular for the Punter who found it difficult to grasp despite having played this game another time.

7. BB's "Open Slater" game also created some debate with some members refusing to play

8. Party pies were enjoyed by the members at half time along with the coffees/tea and cakes at the 11pm break

9. Games finished with the Developer at almost on time at 1am

Thank you to Developer and Mrs S Developer for hosting a very enjoyable night. The night started off very well with the mighty Manly Sea eagles winning comfortably against the Canterbury Bull Dogs.32-10. The Sea Eagles turning up to play in the mud with the right attitudes.

Some highlights of the evening.

1) Winning the first hand by BB, as always not a good sign.
2) BB trying to change tactics by not being as aggressive and playing his cards on its merits? Or was he trying to fool the other members. All to no avail, but improving his last position by 1, coming in 9th for the evening ( 2nd last)
3) No Red wine was spilt, although there was plenty good wine to drink.
4) The pot was the lowest for a long time, a total of $240. (only 3 members cashed in extra).
5) The winners of the night; first TC Jagger collecting 10 points moves into 3rd sport on 21 points, 2nd The Rok collecting 9 points moves into 1st spot on 23 points, and the Professor collecting 8 points moves into 2nd spot on 22 points. Only 2 points separate 1st and 3rd positions. Game 4 should be very interesting.]
6) The position from $ is very similar to the pts position, with Rok on top, Developer 2nd, TC Jagger on 3rd and Prof 4th.
7) 4th on 18 pts is Developer, then Sniper and Maverick on 17points, Punter on 16 pts, Banker on 14 pts, Dam It on 11 pts and at the rear BB on 5 pts!!!!
8) Where has the real Big Bluff gone? Will he turn up on in the next meeting?
9) Maverick recalled a historical event from the Blue Room Uni days, when someone holding a pair of 7’s in a game of Manilla, no wild cards, winning on the last 2 cards with 4 sevens!!!! While 2 other players holder much stronger cards, against the odds, “Jagged it”, creating the nick name Jagger. I might one of many over the years. Thanks Mav for the memories

Some interesting facts
1) We have completed meeting number 60, (LX) to reach game 100 (C) and an average of 5 games per year, it will take a further 8 years (if 6 games per year) it will be 7 years. This will makes us approx. 64-65 years of age for older group or 60/61 for the younger group?
2) Of the games played to date TC Jagger holding top position on 230 points, BB 2nd on 208 pts, the Rok 3rd on 197 pts, Sniper on 193.5 pts.

Look forward to the 1/8/2014 for game 4/14

Yet another excellent BRC, this time at Developer's Palazzo.

Many thanks to Developer for being an excellent host and to Mrs Developer Sonia for the wonderful provisioning. The “home made” party pies from Thomas Dux were a real hit!

It was a most enjoyable evening except for my lowly eith position on the night and the Bulldogs loss to that team that nobody likes.

The tone of the evening was mixed - sometimes subdued but at other times raucous as usual. Notable hands from my perspective were Maverick being stripped of an otherwise winning hand and kings being stripped and replaced by jacks in a “lifesaver” arrangement (also known as lightsaber [which I would spell “lightsabre”] by Star Wars fans) in a showdown between me and Dammit.

I look forward to the next one!

Regards.
