BRC XXXII - Minutes of Meeting - 25 September 09

10/3/2009

Thank you to the Sniper and Robyn for hosting BRC XXXII at the Sniper's Fox Hole at Chatswood on 25 September 09. Great Taco meal and hospitality and venue.  Another Great night and as usual there were highlights to report:

1. Apologies were sent on the day by Dam It!!!
2. Sniper had put on a Taco meal which was attended by several members dressed in various bits of Wild West apparel. The Jagger's wife procured "Mexican cowboy" hat was the cause of some smiles amongst the members. The Jagger had also brought along the 2009 BRC Trophies that he had arranged for viewing and was not shy in showing where his name would stand in the perpetual trophy!!!
3. Remaining members arrived in time however the meal and the Bulldogs vs Parra Finals Game delayed start of proceedings
4. Meeting convened around 8.45pm
5. The Punter started the night by losing the first hand with pocket Aces as they turned into wild cards allowing the Rok to prevail with 5 Jacks!!!
6. Water and wine christened the red table cloth once again
7. Some frustration was expressed by the Punter when a bet was questioned due to the sleeping Professor
8. The Jagger was not impressed by various unnamed members "stealing" the Jagger's new catch phrase - "Pass the Sugar !!"
9. The radio was tuned into the football and some members were distracted by the football game on the TV until it became clear that Parra was going to win and went on to do so. Game settled down by 9.30pm.
10. Fortunes seem to move around. The Jagger was playing conservatively and seemed to be winning the small pot hands- No sympathy from the members.
11. Survivor strip was introduced by BigBluff and proved to be a hit
12. OHS break at 11 pm was well received with The Rok's Cowboy shots well received
13. Photos were taken for the record and the web site
14. The Professor left around midnight followed by GT
15. Last full round of hands saw some big pots, the Punter raked in several with much delight.
16. Clear Winner of the night was The Punter, only other winnner was The Rok with the Banker square.
17. BIGGEST LOSER RECORDS show - The Sniper as the Biggest Loser, with everyone else out of pocket except Punter, Rok and Banker.
18. Game finished around 2am

Another Excellent summary BB.Many Thanks to Mr & Mrs Sniper for hosting BRC 32.
Well the sugar was certainly passed to "The Punter " on the night. After a rough start -- losing the first hand with 2 wilds in hand & 2 on the table ??. Good to see you bounce back Pete!
Commiserations to The Sniper as the
"Biggest Loser" -- take heart -- for statistics show that the host has never been in the winning circle. In fact they are almost always LAST. With this in mind remember - The Jagger is hosting BRC 33.
Beware the hoodoo Jagger - Last place beckons & will see the prize pool scooped by another worthy contender such as ME.
Only 53 more sleeps to go.
The dogs of war are ready.Fear is not an option .
May the best man win .
P.S.
When you inscribe my winners trophy remember it's spelt -- THE ROK .

Gents
Hoodoos and Jinxs are meant to be broken and I dont remember losing the last time I hosted, in fact dont remeber being last at all for a long time.

Anyway, great night, great hosts and great company. I enjoyed the evening. Did not enjoy my terrible luck only winning the small unimportant hands. I may even won the most hands or close behind Punter, but thats not wins the night. Need to win the big hands with the big pots.

Now for the lesson for the week.

"TAKING CHARGE & TRUSTING YR GUT INSTINCT ARE THE KEYS"

POKER is a game of wills, a psychological battle between the competitors, where you test your opponents' strengths and weaknesses as well as your own. For those who were watching the first episode of The Poker Star this week, you would have seen that demonstrated on screen. It is the games we play on ourselves that affect our hands more than anything we try to pull over our competitors.
It's when we begin to question our own hands or mistrust our own reads that we lose the courage and self-assuredness necessary to play the hands we should. The 24-year-old ballerina bookmaker Sally found this out. Holding a nice starting hand of K-Q off-suit when faced with a challenge, she was too afraid to trust her gut - and that is when we begin to lose in poker, and in life.
Sally came into the hand confident, pushing in strong with her chips on the first round of betting, but ultimately began to question her initial swagger. As an observer, you could see the doubt begin to crawl across her face as she ultimately folded what had a good chance of being the winning hand.
In a game where everyone, even the most amateur player, is going to try to bluff you at some point, you need to be able to read your opponent like a book and then have the conviction to follow through. From the very first moment a new player sits down at the table, they will have some understanding of the concept of bluffing - don't give away your good hand, keep your bad hand hidden. Misinformation and misdirection are the key, which is why a true poker star needs to perfect the ability to read people. Is that cocky confidence part of their personality, or can they not contain their excitement at the flop? Does their timidity mean that they'll limp in even when they're sitting on the nuts?
Some players are better at reading people than others. It takes a certain arrogance to assume that you can know everything about a person just by looking at them, but you can. At least when it comes to the poker table.
I found it so interesting that the competitor who performed the strongest in the challenge of reading people was Josh, a young headstrong lawyer who analyses and cross-examines people for a living. Before even taking a seat at the table, he interrogated his opponents expertly, drawing out information and extrapolating that into conclusions about their style of play.
It's hard to read another person when you're busy talking about yourself. I've made some great friends playing poker - some of the members of Team Poker Stars Pro are like family to me now, and you should too. But form those friendships at the celebratory drinks after you've taken them down. Until the competition is over, a great player is inscrutable.
Remember to have a look at the next episode of The Poker Star Wednesdays 8.30pm on One HD and midnight Thursdays on Channel Ten.
Until next week, pass the sugar!

Jagger,
All those wasted years at Uni obtaining an engineer's degree. Your should of studied Law . ( refer your lesson above ). This : according to you , would have made you a better Poker Player.
" What a waste ! " .
Only 50 more sleeps to go.

Jagger,

Please post your regular and enlightening articles in your new "Pass the Sugar!" column on the Home Page. Just send to me and I will upload.

With the trophies can a badge of sorts be used with the players avatar and name instead of just a name plate?

Ok guys, more lessons to follow. I will email to Big Bluff, who by the way will have no chance to win the champions trophy and title. Start practicing strategies and mode of play for next year.

In reality, the winner will only come from the first current 3 position holders. Just for the record if the last round was duplicated and points doubled, TC Jagger would still win by the slimest of margins (1 point) from Maverick and 4 points further behind the Rok.

But let them think they still have a chance.

Count down 34 sleeps to go.

Countdown ... NOW ONLY ... 24 sleeps to go.
I hope you have spelt my name correctly on that winners trophy. -- { The Rok }.

Bring on the thunder .. I am ready ... The Rok fears no man or beast.
BRC XXX111 will be my greatest victory.
All who stand before me will be swept aside.
Jagger .. you live in fear .. we all know this .. The air is rank with the stench of your self doubt.

P.S.
Remember to include the following saying in your next pass the sugar column..... " Fear has no place at the table "
It is this reason the that The Rok will reign supreme.

24 to go.
