Another Great Night at the The Maverick's Hangar

Dinner was hosted by the Maverick at the Hangar. The Professor attended early while BigBluff was late due to picking up a stranded Punter at nearby rail station.
Pizza and savories prepared by the Maverick and flight crew were enjoyed at the beginning of the night.

Results of the night left the situation with the first 2 positions remaining unchanged- Unfortunately!!

The big movers were Big Bluff and The Rok,  who moved from 9th and 7th position to 4th and 3rd positions respectively.

Jagger continues to "RULE"(his words) with max points. After 1st and 2nd position a gap of 9 points remains to 3rd.  , with the balance of the bunch all cramped up from 21 points to 16 points to last position.

Apologies from GT and Dam- IT

The Banker was "missing in action" and had not been heard of???
Talk of ASIO involvement was quickly silenced in case it was true!!

As usual there was some highlights:

1. The Jagger looked splendid in his hat (see photos), looking like "an olive oil salesman" according to the Rok. The Sniper looked nothing like a Sniper with his straw hat and looked more like "Luigi" according to BigBluff. The Developer went for "country developer" look. BigBluff looked the part in his coat, hat and glasses.

2. The Jagger caused a roaring chorus of laughter  when he attempted to scoop up the pot using a hand requiring using the entire set of cards in the Rok's Bar-bell game. The game has now been renamed the "Dumb- Bell" in the Jagger's honour!!

3. The Jagger again drew blood(wine) over the table

4. The Punter caused a sensation half way through the night when the Developer made a very timely comment at the end of a game, scaring off the Rok with his full house and allowing the Punter to win with 3 Aces!!

5. The Punter appeared to have been "smoking weed" with several fits of uncontrolled laughter during the night, much to the 'amusement" of Maverick - NOT

6. Maverick was not impressed when the Jagger had not put away a "reserve" wild card which had been stripped destrying Mavericks hand,  after having done so in previous games
.
7. The Professor cause a stir when he introduced for the first time - 'SURVIVOR' strip cards with progressive strip cards. This then initiated BigBluff to play - Survivor Texas

8. Additional BRC quote was added by The Developer to The Jagger - " Are you playing conservative Jagger ??"

9. The Maverick prepared some great deserts and refreshment at 11pm

10. Fortunes moved around the table- Final Game stats as follows:

Big Bluff        9 hands plus 2 shared hands

Punter           8 Hands plus 4 shared hands

Sniper           1 hands plus 1 shared hands

Jagger          11 hands plus 1 shared hands

   Professor      1 shared hand

Developer     5 hands

Rok                7 hands plus 2 shared hands

Maverick       5 hands plus 2 shared hands

11. The Professor bailed around midnight with significant losses recorded. Game carried on past the 1.30am official end with Maverick suggesting 2am. Final round led game to finish around 2.15am.

12. Chip leader at end of the night was The Jagger who swooped past BigBluff, who had bunkered down to secure position in first place, in the final hand to score a tight win, much to the frustration of BigBluff, who finished in 2nd place.

12. Biggest Loser - The Professor

Many Thanks Maverick & Family for hosting another .. very amusing night.
There were many highlights to the night; most of which were covered by BB's excellent summary.
Jagger .. I was miss quoted ! I said to BB that the image of you ( in your hat )
belonged on the label of a bottle of olive oil."SAN CARISTO"- Extra virgin ).
I love the idea of the Wild west theme for BRC XXX11. I'll park my horse in the front yard. Free fertilization for the Sniper's roses.
Watch out the Rok is on the move up the ladder & I have the Jagger in my sights.

Thanks to all who attended BRC XXXI , it was a great night. Got off to a slow start with only Professor arriving just before 7-30pm but we got everyone there by about 8-45pm. Some of my highlights:

1. Jaggers attire may have contributed to some of his wins - he looked very much like "Aussie Bob" from Underbelly, so members were a bit wary about winning against him since they did not want to wake up next to a horses head in their bed the next day ..........

2. Nightmare flashback to the infamous 4 Sevens hand during Uni by the Jagger, as he won last enormous pot with same sucker 7's in his hand (which happened to be the wild card for striptease !!)

3. Social Services may be called in to investigate how BB was able to extract 2 wins from Georgio, after his was filling in for Maverick to make coffee - Should be ashamed of yourself BB !!!

4. Punters creative "change" move in which he attempted to not only keep BB $100 change from the pot bue also declare that he and BB were now in, efectively "stealing" $500 from the pot - nice try Punter !!!

5. Jaggers sheer blind luck win, when he capped the last 2 bets against Maverick and Developer even though he had the 3 highest hand on the table. Apparently he had a preminition or some dream the night before which told him he could not lose the hand - Nostradamus just rolled over in his grave !!!

6. ROK attempt to play a "pairs" game which was quickly shouted down

7. Jaggers attempt to recify his "DUMBELL" incident by having a "grouping" game which ridiculously allowed for about 10 possible hands.

8. The pain of Maverick losing out to ROK with 5 NINES - well done ROK !!

9. The Curse of the FIRST HAND WIN continues with Maverick suffering after winning the first hand and then only winning 4 more hands throughout the night

Thanks for a good night, guys

Dear BRC members

Catch me if you can!!!! Jagger's lucky run deserted me for a while but returned on the home stretch with a vengence. Up till the last hour and half the Jagger only won 4 hands and shared another, but ended up with 11 wins and shared 1. I would like to thank Nick for his suggestion to extend the game an extra half hour. It did wonders to the chips.

Just luv those pocket 7's in strip and the second 7 turns up as wild card. You beauty.

The night could not have finished on a better note. Bring on BRC XXXII and the Wild West.

PS, everytime I want to have a laugh I will visit the Blog again. Thanks for the enjoyment.

Great evening and I can't help laughing while reading this great blog. I love it. You guys just keep making me have BIG smile on my face. Shame I can't say the same about the Sea Eagles!!!

Sorry, correction to the last line in my last blog. A rouge editor was over zealous in his editing, and should have stated " Just like the Sea Eagles, luck deserted for a while but coming home with a vengence to win at the last hurdle and raise the Grand final trophy in the arms. See you all in the Grand Final"

CHANCE WOULD BE FINE A THING: NO SUCH THING AS A LUCKY PRO

Joe Hachem
August 15, 2009

ONE of the most common and wildly inaccurate perceptions of poker is that it is a game of luck.
As a professional player, it's almost insulting to hear people reduce your entire career to a matter of chance. As anyone who has been on the professional circuit will tell you, luck might cut you a break and get you through day one of a tournament, but you need skill, stamina and discipline to make it through days two to 14. The PokerStars.net Australian New Zealand Poker Tournament, which wrapped up in Queensland last Sunday, proved exactly how much luck has to do with a professional win.
The ANZPT began in February this year, and visited cities across Australia and New Zealand over the past six months, as 1309 players vied to be crowned the champion.
The ANZPT ran on a points system, with players awarded according to their ranking in each tournament. Running a tour on a points system means that, at the end of the six months, the champion is not the guy who got lucky with a big win in the second tournament in Sydney, but the player who is skilled enough to perform consistently across all five tournaments.
This point was driven home when the eventual winner was announced on Sunday night, and it was not the player who won the tournament held at Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast. In fact, the inaugural PokerStars.net ANZPT champion didn't come first once this tour. Instead, he performed strongly and consistently enough across all five events to take the top spot overall.
Forgive me a moment of pride when I reveal who achieved this stellar feat: my fellow Team PokerStars PRO Australia member and little brother, Tony C best known as Jagger.
With his impressive win, and by taking the tour in such a unique way, Tony has proved something that I've always known about poker - anyone can get lucky, but it takes true skill to perform consistently.
Tony's steady performance and subsequent victory reminds me of another player on the circuit for whom I have an enormous amount of respect, Lee Nelson.
A strategist, scholar and author on the great game of poker, Lee is affectionately known on the scene as Lee ''Final Table'' Nelson, because he has made more final tables in Australia and New Zealand than any other player.
When you look at the majority of the World Series of Poker champions, you'll find the same thing. Many people remember us for that one big win, but all those guys are out there performing at tournaments time and time again - maybe not scooping the biggest prize and the post-match David Letterman interview, but still representing their countries and playing damn good poker every time they sit down at the table.
At the end of the day, it's like any other sport. There are flash-in-the-pan performers who might make a nice piece of ESPN footage with an incredible feat or surprise win, but the real professionals you can look up to, the ones who become heroes, are the ones who have honed skills to deliver stellar performances every time they take to the table.
Until next week, Pass the Sugar!

Administrator , I feel you are correct in this. The Jagger has brought the "Game to Shame " with his flagrant self promotion. Maybe a trip to the BRC disciplinary committee may be in order for such a breech in etiquette.
I feel a judicial hearing is a must for this most grave a dastardly outrage.
What say the other BRC members. Should The Jagger be held accountable ?

What, you can't HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!
The consistent professional player does not rely on luck, "it takes true skill to perform consistently" Thats the story. No shame to the game. What we want in the game are people who can promote the game. Not like the dumbo Darius Boyd!!!! NO CHARACTER NO CHARM.

BTW, there is nothing in the rules against promoting the game.

We will see next round what happens.
However the facts speak louder than words. In the last 6 rounds, ( 4 this year and 2 last year), TC jagger is the most consistent player, with 4 top positions, 1/2nd and 1/ 3rd.

I wish everyone Good luck in the next 2 rounds, and may you bring your best game to the meetings as I am sure it will be building up to the final round.

A reminder that the last round expected to be in late Nov, probadly 27th at the Marsfield Casino, will be worth double points.

See you in all in a month.

Rok,

Hate to say it, but The Jagger is correct in that he has been consistent in terms of being in the top positions but he has also been consistent in self promotion, which as he rightly states is not against the Rules.

Editing articles written by others however is frowned upon by the Administrator and he has been warned.

We can all only take up the challenge to take on the The Jagger and allow the true BRC Champion- BigBluff, to swoop in these 2 final games. All efforts in assisting Bigbluff will be appreciated

GO THE BLUFF!!!!

Not only have you flagerantly violated copywrite laws but you have even stole a line from one of my movies ..........

I think the pressure of leading must be getting to Jagger. Yes, I know Jagger, your comments about the mighty dragons would now surface to back your arguments, but unlike you, the Dragons will quietly win their last 2 games to finish minor premiers and then just win 3 more games for the premiership ......

Be sure not to play to conservatively Jagger otherwise who knows ...........

Gentlemen

Firstly, Big Bluff if you believe you are to be champion, then you dont need assitance from anyone and you should be able to win on your merits. But good luck anyway.

Secondly, Maverick, If Saints deserve to win the minor premiership so be it. As before what is more important is the Premiership Champions, and lets see what happens and May the best team win.

You have noticed that I have not said a word about the recent losses for the Saints, can they make it 3 in a row against Souths!! the pressure is on.

Saints played poorly against Souths this weekend, but we all know this is all a Benny tactic to throw media and other clubs off the scent! I'm sure they will fire up against Parramatta when we play them at Kogarah this weekend. The BRC faithful that have season tickets will be there!
As far as Manly are concerned ...what hope do they have to make any impact to the finals after todays effort? Fancy winning with 1 minute to go playing against last placed Sharks who had a man sent off after 20 minutes hence playing with 12 men. Power to the Sharks for a courageous effort and shame on the Sea Eagles for a pretend win!

Developer to win the next BRC!!!!!!

I am sure all BRC members would not sacrifice there positions to allow BigBluff to win the position of true champion and ruin their own chances. I am sure even Maverick will fight to win as true champion.

If BigBluff wants to be the True Champion then he should win on his own merits and would not want the assistance of anyone.

If you anyone are able to win on their merits then, I will bow down to the true champion on a great win. I will the first to congratulate the champion and would be happy to pass the trophy to the champion myself.

Next week I will forward a lesson on how a champion rises to the surface against all odds.

In the meantime

"Pass the sugar" baby, to quote a true champion.

Should be a very interesting BRC XXX11.
What I can see happening is this:

* The Jagger will be that conservative
{ protecting his lead } That he will hardly play a chip all night. When he does -- 7 card stud will feature much to the groans of other players. This will be followed by a chorus of "Out,Out,Out" ... enabling the Jagger to steal the blinds. " Pathetic "

* Big Bluff will come out , Guns Blazing and recklessly try to "BULLY " everybody out of the pots.
Maverick (2nd ) The Rok (3rd ) will have a lot to say about this.

* The return of the "wild card" Dave Byron AKA The Banker should mix things up also.

BRING IT ON ... The Rok

DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOU PLAY, YOU BEST WEAPON IS PATIENCE.

"There are a variety of different styles of play you can employ at the poker table: you can play aggressive or passive, loose or tight.
The style you play should be dictated by how you read the other players at the table.
As the name would suggest, aggressive play is forceful, often raising and betting and generally trying to intimate fellow competitors. Conversely, with passive play you are thinking about trying to trap your opponents, calling and limping into pots to disguise the strength of your hand.
Loose play is when you are willing to play with any two cards, whereas when you are playing tight you wait for the big hands such as aces and kings.
There might be times at the table when you need to use different styles but overall the most effective way to play the game is tight and aggressive.
You need to play patient poker, waiting for good hands to come, and when they do, play them very aggressively to make the most profit from them. Whether you’re playing tight and aggressive or passive and loose, the key to playing poker at an international level in any style is discipline and the ability to understand your opponents.
This requires a huge amount of patience. The patience to read your opponents and watch their play, the patience to see your way through a bad beat, and the discipline to not be reckless when you’re only being dealt poor starting hands is the key to any poker strategy.
By nature, I can be fiery and volatile, but in the past few years I’ve brought my temper under control and become a far more balanced and patient player, which has improved my game immeasurably.
I used to be excitable at the table, and possibly because of my heritage, my blood seemed to constantly hover around boiling point. When I hit a bad beat, or lost a hand, I would berate and belittle my unfortunate opponents.
After a lot of soul-searching, and a few words of wisdom from a man named Mike Caro, I realized that this approach was all wrong.
Mike “The Mad Genius” Caro is a respected professional player and a pioneer of statistical poker theory. He contributed extensively to the classic poker strategy bible – Doyle Brunson’s Super/System – and is a prolific author on the game.
Mike summed up the virtues of keeping your cool perfectly when he said: “You want weak players in your game. They may even enjoy going up against the odds. When you insult them for their bad plays you’re just making them uncomfortable and motivating them to play better in future. Don’t do that”.
Keeping your patience and your cool ensures that your play, whatever style you are using at the time, always has the best possible chance of being a winning one."
So gents I will be playing the patience Game next week.

Until next week, pass the sugar!

Jagger, is that the "Encyclopedia of Poker" you are quoting from or
"Confucious's Guide to Poker Enlightenment." Either way it sounds like Horse S...t.
We will wipe the floor with the Jagger this coming Friday.
Bring It On... We have waited so long ... The dogs of war are ready ...The sharks are circling, they smell blood in the water.. Hell will be unleashed.
THE ROK IS READY.

The time has come, for the Jagger to rise above all and show who is the real king. The Jagger is back with guns blazing and with some patience to pounce at the right time. Will you be holding the right hand, or just another dud hand! Remeber if you dont have 4 of a kind throw out. As the Jagger will have the better hand.

I can take it, but can you take the pressure.

only 20 hours to go. The excitment is building and BB and Rok are having itchy fingers.

See you soon. In the mean time pass the sugar.
